I won't even go into the ride home ....half way home he was begging to be taken back there. Sick...nauseas, gagging into the basin we provided him. ....We were almost side swiped by a van that came from the fast lane into the middle lane as we were entering it. He/she came out of no where like a bat outta Hell and we watched him/her disappear , him/her was changing lanes back and forth. Think that's called "aggresive driving.' What a close call. I shit you not!
Took forever to get him inside as he was still throwing up....yellow stuff. If it was bile...he had a shit load of it in him. Two women from paliative care came to his room to talk to us about his care and meds and what they can offer us to keep him comfortable. IF the morphine he gets every 12 hours and the oxycodone 4 xs a day don't help control his pain , then I can give him it every 5 1/2 or 5 or 4 and when his pain can't be controlled by oxy every 4 hours he can be taken off oxy and given a stronger med and so on and so on. Meantime they discharged him with enough morphine pills for fifteen days and now I have to figure out WHO will be writing the RX for more. We discussed his primary not being acceptable to him having more pain meds and they are going to call the other V.A.Clinic near us and see when someone there can see him. They witnessed him being moved and touched by the nurses trying to get him ready to go home and the pain JUST THAT produced. They more or less implied that the pain he was in...WASN'T ACCEPTABLE. They/hospital, left the Foley in. That I am happy about. We see the urologist the 2nd of August and it will be up to him to decide if it stays or comes out. I was given supplies to drain it, etc. Daughter Michelle and I emptied his weekly pain med box and redid them with all but the oxy in them. Has some other new meds were added too.
ALL THIS we did on the bed...with him sleeping soundly inches away. We never lowered our voices either. He was given an oxy and a gabapentin right before he left and I guess the ordeal of getting him into a wheelchair, then into the car, then out of the car into a wheelchair and then into bed and positioned...WORE HIM OUT. It's 6 p.m. and while it's soooooo good to see him sleeping and comfortable, my mind is saying he needs to drink something and eat. Maybe just for tonight...we can skip it and hopefully he will sleep until 7:30 and I'll go even further and hope that he doesn't need an oxy then, but I think I'm asking for too much. sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
As per usual...shit is happening at home. Son Randy took a dip in the pool after he worked painting the sheds during the heat of the day and left his money in his pants pocket. Forty dollars came up missing . Same shit...different day ...with Gil.
Hubby woke close to seven in pain. Wanted to get up ....and can't even get in a position to sit up. sighhhh
Just putting the cover back over his legs made him scream in pain. WTF am I going to do??? How is he going to be able to sit up in our regular bed to eat and drink????? Was able to get his oxy in his mouth with him lying on his side and choked him when I let too much water go out of the water bottle to swallow it down with. His Foley bag is taped to his left leg and that side is what is at the center of the bed. Needs to be placed on the other leg....but I sure the efff am not going to be the one taht takes that tape off his left leg and puts more tape on his right leg. Removing tape from his skin drives him MAD. I shit you not!
He gets the morphine pill at 9...by hook or by crook. Then another oxy when he cries for it in the 1 a.m. time frame. OMG.... I haven't been sleeping much as it is and will be sleeping even less. I can't let him sleep around the clock, nor will he as he woke from his nice long nap crying out in pain. I stalled him as long as I could. 5 /2 hours
Jill and Butchie went out to eat.....I nuked a Smart One chicken parm. Now I sit here typing and wonder and worry how this is all going to play out. Looking BLEAK right now, but hopefully and I am hopeful....that things will look better day by day.
Questions are running through my head....like when do I re-order his morphine pills and will I get them on time...in time...or be left in the lurch as I have been in the past on oxycodone.
The paliative care people told me that I am going to have to be on something stronger than Lorazapam and to get ahold of my doctor or I will be going off the deep end. sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Hoping between Butchie and Gil that I can get him sitting up later (like at nine when he needs to take his p.m. meds and morphine and get him to eat something.
Trying to remember everything I was told today about caring for him.......Hoping the hospital bed comes soon.....
(((hugs)))
