Ann Rita Beatty
April 19, 1939 - October 9, 2014
Though it was expected and what she would have wanted for herself, her older sister Peg is taking it hard.
They lived just blocks from each other most of their adult life and it was Ann that would drive Peg and her husband where ever they needed to go once my BIL Dan could no longer drive.
Peg never learned to drive.
Ann was the aunt that baby sat for her two older sisters children.
When it was Ann's turn to need help, it was Peg's children that did for her.
There were nine children in my husband's family.
John, Austin, Mary, Margaret, Michael, James, Joseph, Ann and Francis.
His oldest brother John (Jackie) was killed in his 30's b y a semi truck that veered off the road when he was hitch hiking home to MA from Georgia in February of 1965. He was separated from his wife and they had lost their only child to SIDS at age 6 months.,
The next to go was his brother Jimmy at age 39. He was hit on the head by a large box while working on a loading dock at Mclean Trucking and never realized that a large blood clot was forming. Nor did we know of the accident or the clot, not the doctors until he went into a coma and then they did an MRI of his head. If it had been DX'd in time, surgery would have saved his life and he would have needed some PT afterwards.
WE, like any of the doctors that saw him, whether it was in the ER or in the ward for alcoholics never suspected a clot. Jimmy was a drinker, as was his brother Jackie and he definitely looked drunk, slurred his talk, had trouble walking, couldn't bring his lighter up to where his cigarette sat in his mouth waiting to be lit, , but after being shut up in the ward for a week and seeing him get no better,( even his doctors were asking us if his girlfriend was sneaking him in something) we knew he was in trouble.
Jimmy married in his late thirties and after a few months they separated. They had no children.
Next was his sister Mary. She suffered a massive aneurism in her 40's as she was sitting on her toilet, pitched forward and hit her head on her tub and never regained consciousness.
Her oldest daughter was about to graduate high school and when her mother didn't pick her up from school as planned to shop for a dress to wear under her high school robe, she walked home....and found her.
Mary and Paul had four children and the youngest was 5.
Sadly, my wonderful mother in law had to bury three of her children.
Shortly after her death, her next to oldest son Austin died. Drinking hastened his death as well as his wife's not too many years after his death. He was 62 and had just got his first S.S. check the month before. Their two children were married.
Next was my husband at age 75. Twenty seven of those years, he began his slow decline due to being treated by a doctor that wasn't a doctor. POOF off the face of this earth after I called his office to tell them that after he was put in traction ( the weight of pull he ordered, the time ) he was taken to the hospital by ambulance..
Oh, the plans we made for when he retired. All taken from us. Shit happens!
Now Ann. Another aneurism. She never married, never had children.
Left is Peg who turned 80 in May. Joe (think he turned 75 Oct. 3rd. and the baby is Francis (Frank)
and he must be 72 and hasn't been in good health due to a spinal injury for a good 20 years.
. In this picture Jackie and Mary were already deceased.

This was taken shortly before she passed away.
1980
I remember that because this was taken at Jill's wedding 4-19-1980
Mike in better days before his injury. Oh, how he loved to dance...and could he ever! ISYN!
Leisure suits were IN then and he looked damned good in them!
No funeral plans were made as of 4 P.M., but of course, they will be.
Monday is a holiday, so most likely she will be waked Tuesday and buried Wednesday.
Ed and I have worked our hineys off and have the motor home ready to head out around noon for Canoe River Campgrounds in Mansfield,MA.
That's the first campgrounds that he took me to the day after we met.
You remember.... the one where we were followed by Ada for a good ten miles.
Gasp! Even people in their 80's stalk! ISYN!
For those that don't know who Ada was, Ada was one of Ed's friends wife. He was their Best Man.
She and her husband Don divorced after 5 sons and many years of marriage, later he died.
After Ed's wife passed away, she thought she'd become the next Mrs.
He had different plans and she wasn't in them.
He will tell you that she was a nice lady, but he felt nothing for her. You can't make someone love you. .
(((hugs)))
That's All Folks!

I'm sorry that you've lost another person you cared about. Thank you for taking us down memory lane with you.. and have a safe journey on your little voyage with Ed and no Ada. ;)

ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this post even though it wasn't a very happy one. It's nice to see the family history.
ReplyDeleteMy comment disappeared! Thank you for sharing this bit of family history, and again so sorry about Ann. The family resemblance in Mike's lot is so strong isn't it?
